What this trial studies

This observational project measures physical fitness in children aged 7–18 with bronchiectasis using playful field tests and questionnaires. Participants complete game-like activities such as running and sit-to-stand tests, have their weight recorded, and undergo muscle-strength measurement with a handheld device. Questionnaires collect information about activity habits and enjoyment of exercise, and only clinically stable, cooperative Turkish-speaking children are eligible. No treatments are given; the goal is to describe how bronchiectasis relates to physical function and activity levels.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Children aged 7–18 with a confirmed bronchiectasis diagnosis who can walk, are clinically stable, cooperative, and can read and understand Turkish.

Not a fit: Children who have had a lung transplant, experienced an acute exacerbation or hospitalization within the past month, or who have serious musculoskeletal, cardiac, or neurological conditions limiting mobility may not benefit from participation.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the results could help tailor exercise and rehabilitation plans by showing how bronchiectasis affects children’s physical fitness.

How similar studies have performed: Related exercise and functional testing has been used in pediatric respiratory diseases like cystic fibrosis, but direct data specifically on pediatric bronchiectasis are relatively limited.
