Physical exercise program to improve aerobic capacity in people with cardiovascular disease

Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Physical Exercise on Aerobic Capacity in Patients With Cardiovascular Disease

Observational Fundacion Universitaria Maria Cano · NCT07019506

This project will try a 20-session cardiac rehabilitation exercise program to see if it improves aerobic capacity in people aged 35–90 with cardiovascular disease who are patients at Clínica el Rosario.

What this trial studies

This observational record-based project uses clinical data from patients seen at Clínica el Rosario between 2015 and 2024 who completed a baseline exercise stress test and a post-intervention stress test after 20 supervised sessions. Eligible records must show attendance of at least 90% of prescribed sessions and complete data for the measured outcomes. The primary outcome is change in aerobic capacity measured by exercise stress testing before and after the rehabilitation program. Analysis will compare pre- and post-intervention aerobic capacity in this real-world clinical cohort to characterize program effectiveness.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 35 to 90 with a clinical diagnosis of cardiovascular disease who are patients at Clínica el Rosario and who completed baseline and post-20-session exercise stress tests with ≥90% session attendance are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: Patients without complete records, those who attended fewer than 90% of the prescribed sessions, or those unable to perform exercise testing are unlikely to contribute to or benefit from the study findings.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the results could support wider use of supervised cardiac rehabilitation to improve aerobic fitness and lower cardiovascular risk for similar patients.

How similar studies have performed: Numerous prior randomized and observational studies have shown that structured cardiac rehabilitation exercise programs improve aerobic capacity and reduce cardiovascular risk, so this approach is well supported by existing evidence.
