What this trial studies
This study aims to evaluate the impact of a nursing intervention on the physical activity levels of elderly patients aged 75 and older who are hospitalized in a geriatric short stay. The primary focus is to compare the daily number of steps taken by patients receiving nursing support versus those receiving usual care. Secondary objectives include assessing changes in physical exertion, fall occurrences, patient autonomy, and travel habits. The study addresses the issue of functional maladjustment in frail elderly patients during hospitalization, aiming to enhance their physical activity and overall well-being.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are men and women aged 75 years and older who are hospitalized in a geriatric short stay.
Not a fit: Patients with neurological or orthopedic conditions that limit their ability to perform exercises or those with contraindications to physical activity may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly improve the physical activity and autonomy of elderly patients during and after hospitalization.
How similar studies have performed: While the effectiveness of nursing support for physical activity in hospitals has not been extensively studied, similar approaches in primary care have shown promising results.
