What this trial studies

This observational national survey uses an online questionnaire to collect self-reported data on physical and sports activity, anxiety, perceived stigma, and illness identity from adults with epilepsy. Participants complete a baseline questionnaire and a secondary questionnaire at six months to capture changes over time and interactions with physical activity identity. Researchers will analyze associations between psychological factors and activity levels to identify barriers and facilitators to exercise in this population. No experimental treatments are given and results are intended to inform strategies to promote safe, sustained physical activity among people with epilepsy.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults (18+) who self-report a diagnosis of epilepsy and are willing to complete an initial online questionnaire and a six-month follow-up are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People who cannot use online questionnaires, who have severe cognitive impairment preventing reliable self-report, or who do not complete the six-month questionnaire are unlikely to benefit from the study's insights.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could guide targeted education and support programs that increase activity, reduce stigma, and improve quality of life for people with epilepsy.

How similar studies have performed: Previous research has shown that physical activity benefits people with epilepsy and that anxiety and stigma can reduce activity, but large national surveys combining these psychological factors with physical activity identity remain limited.
