What this trial studies
This study aims to improve glycemic control and weight management in older Asian Americans diagnosed with type 2 diabetes through a personalized behavioral nutrition (PBN) intervention. It will involve a randomized controlled design with 60 participants aged 65 and older, focusing on culturally tailored dietary education and digital self-monitoring. The study will also explore factors influencing the effectiveness and acceptability of the intervention. By addressing the unique challenges faced by this demographic, the research seeks to provide insights into effective dietary strategies for managing diabetes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are Asian Americans aged 65 and older, residing in Bexar County, and diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
Not a fit: Patients who are unable to give informed consent or have severe health conditions that limit participation may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could lead to improved diabetes management and health outcomes for older Asian Americans.
How similar studies have performed: While there is evidence supporting dietary interventions in mainstream populations, this culturally tailored approach for older Asian Americans is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
