Personalized ablation strategies for atrial fibrillation
Developing Dynamic Substrate Targeted Personalised Treatment Strategies in AF.
This study is testing personalized treatment plans for people with persistent atrial fibrillation to see if tailored catheter ablation can improve their heart rhythm and treatment success.

What this trial studies
This study investigates personalized catheter ablation strategies for patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) by examining the underlying mechanisms that contribute to persistent AF. It aims to develop techniques to measure rate-dependent conduction velocity (RDCV) slowing and assess the impact of autonomic modulation on AF dynamics. Patients undergoing catheter ablation for persistent AF will be included, and their treatment will be tailored based on the presence of low voltage zones in the heart. The study is conducted at the Barts Heart Centre, focusing on improving the success rates of AF ablation procedures.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients with persistent atrial fibrillation lasting less than 24 months who have not previously undergone left atrial ablation.
Not a fit: Patients who are unwilling to consent, under 18 years old, or have contraindications for catheter ablation will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to higher success rates in eliminating atrial fibrillation for patients undergoing catheter ablation.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on catheter ablation for AF, this specific approach focusing on personalized strategies based on underlying mechanisms is novel.
