What this trial studies
This study evaluates the feasibility of a pelvic floor muscle exercise (PFME) program aimed at reducing urinary incontinence in men undergoing radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer. Participants will engage in Kegel exercises and receive biofeedback while their experiences and satisfaction will be assessed through interviews. Additionally, the study will measure quality of life through questionnaires to determine the program's effectiveness in alleviating incontinence symptoms post-surgery.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are men aged 18 and older with prostate cancer who are scheduled for radical prostatectomy at Memorial Sloan Kettering.
Not a fit: Patients who have a history of urinary incontinence prior to surgery or those unable to participate due to comorbidities or communication barriers may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly improve the quality of life for patients recovering from prostate surgery by reducing urinary incontinence.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promise in using pelvic floor muscle exercises to improve urinary incontinence outcomes, suggesting this approach may be effective.
