What this trial studies
This quasi-experimental interventional project enrolls volunteer second-, third- and fourth-year nursing students at Süleyman Demirel University and runs for six weeks. Volunteer peer mentors will be randomly paired by an independent researcher and take part in structured sessions on communication techniques, interview methods, empathic approaches, social motivation, and leader–member interaction, with subsequent podcast sharing. A themed presentation and evaluation meeting between peer mentors and mentees on 'nursing and society' is included to foster empathy and understanding. Empathic self-efficacy, social self-efficacy, and youth leadership characteristics will be measured before and after the program, and socio-demographic data will be recorded.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Volunteer nursing students in their second, third, or fourth year at Süleyman Demirel University's Faculty of Health Sciences during the 2024–2025 academic year.
Not a fit: First-year students are excluded and those unwilling or unable to attend the in-person training sessions are unlikely to benefit from the intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the program could help nursing students build stronger empathy, social confidence, and leadership skills that support their educational and clinical roles.
How similar studies have performed: Previous peer mentoring programs in nursing and health education have reported modest improvements in empathy and self-efficacy, so this approach has some supporting evidence.
