What this trial studies

This study focuses on co-designing and pilot testing a Veteran-centered intervention called the Vet Peer Connects program, aimed at improving lung cancer screening uptake among Black Veterans. The program involves peer-led group orientations and one-on-one tailored support for eligible Veterans, helping them navigate the screening process. The feasibility of the program will be assessed through various methods, including ethnographic observation and participant interviews, to gather insights on its acceptability and effectiveness.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are self-identified Black Veterans who meet specific lung cancer screening guidelines.

Not a fit: Patients who are not Black Veterans or those who have already undergone lung cancer screening will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly increase lung cancer screening rates among Black Veterans, leading to earlier detection and better outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While similar peer-led interventions have shown promise in other health areas, this specific approach targeting Black Veterans and lung cancer screening is relatively novel.
