What this trial studies
This study evaluates a 1-month peer-led eHealth training program called TEAM Wheels, aimed at improving satisfaction with activity participation and rehabilitation outcomes for individuals transitioning to manual wheelchair use. Participants will be randomly assigned to either the TEAM Wheels program or a control group receiving standard wheelchair training. The study will assess the effectiveness of the program on various outcomes, including wheelchair skills, self-efficacy, and quality of life, with follow-up assessments at 6 months post-treatment. The program is delivered virtually due to COVID-19, utilizing trained peer trainers who are experienced manual wheelchair users.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 18 and older who use a manual wheelchair and can engage with the training material in English.
Not a fit: Patients with health conditions that may interfere with training or those currently receiving additional wheelchair skills training may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly enhance the quality of life and independence for individuals using manual wheelchairs.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown positive outcomes with peer-led training approaches, suggesting potential success for this program.
