Peer-led Dynamic Choice HIV Prevention for Women
Peer-led Dynamic Choice HIV Prevention for Women: The Peer-led DCP Pilot Study
This pilot will test whether a peer‑led program that offers dynamic choices in biomedical prevention (like PrEP) helps women at elevated HIV risk in Uganda use prevention more over six months.

What this trial studies
The study will refine and pilot a Peer‑led Dynamic Choice Prevention (DCP) intervention tailored to women at elevated HIV risk in southwestern Uganda. In a single‑arm pilot, approximately 60 HIV‑negative women will receive peer mentor support and be offered choice-driven biomedical prevention options such as PrEP. The study will measure feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary effectiveness by comparing biomedical prevention coverage in the six months after the intervention to the six months prior. Findings will inform further refinement and the design of larger controlled trials if the approach appears promising.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Women (age ≥18, or mature minors ≥15) who are HIV‑negative and at elevated risk of HIV—eligible for PrEP under Ugandan guidelines, recently exchanged sex for goods or money, or work in bars/guesthouses—are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: People who are HIV‑positive, have contraindications to country‑recommended PrEP, are enrolled in another HIV prevention study, or are not at elevated HIV risk are unlikely to benefit from this intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the intervention could increase uptake and sustained use of biomedical HIV prevention like PrEP among high‑risk women, potentially reducing new infections.
How similar studies have performed: Other peer‑led and choice‑based interventions have shown promise for improving PrEP uptake in some settings, but this specific peer‑led DCP approach in Ugandan women is relatively novel and has not been widely tested.
