What this trial studies
This study evaluates the implementation of patient-controlled admissions for individuals with severe psychiatric conditions in Region Stockholm, Sweden. It aims to empower patients by allowing them to admit themselves to inpatient care when needed, rather than relying solely on healthcare providers to make that decision. The approach is designed to enhance patient autonomy, reduce involuntary admissions, and improve overall quality of life. The study will involve patients who have ongoing contact with outpatient care and have previously required inpatient treatment.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals with severe psychiatric conditions who have ongoing outpatient care and a history of inpatient treatment.
Not a fit: Patients who do not have the capacity to provide informed consent or those without a prior inpatient care history may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly enhance patient autonomy and reduce the need for involuntary psychiatric admissions.
How similar studies have performed: Previous smaller studies have shown positive outcomes for patient-controlled admissions, indicating potential for success in this larger implementation.
