What this trial studies

This observational study aims to implement a patient navigation system at Hospital Central de Maputo to enhance oncological outcomes for breast cancer patients. The study will track a cohort of female patients undergoing treatment, collecting data on the time from symptom onset to treatment initiation and overall survival rates. The patient navigator will provide continuous support from admission until treatment begins, with the goal of reducing delays in care. The study will also compare outcomes with historical data to assess the effectiveness of the navigation intervention.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are females aged 18 and older who are set to undergo breast cancer treatment at Hospital Central de Maputo.

Not a fit: Patients with a history of other malignancies or those who have previously received breast cancer treatment elsewhere may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve the speed and effectiveness of breast cancer treatment for patients.

How similar studies have performed: While the concept of patient navigation is established, this specific implementation in Mozambique is novel and has not been extensively tested in this context.
