What this trial studies

This is a retrospective observational comparison of adults undergoing scheduled unilateral total knee arthroplasty at Strasbourg University Hospitals from January 1, 2020 to June 30, 2023. Postoperative recovery was measured using the French QoR-15F score and outcomes for patients discharged as outpatients were compared with those who had conventional hospitalization. Patients who had revision, emergency, oncologic, bilateral, or septic procedures were excluded. No experimental interventions were applied and data were extracted from clinical records.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults (18 and older) who had scheduled unilateral total knee replacement at Strasbourg University Hospital during the study period and had QoR-15F data are the ideal candidates for this comparison.

Not a fit: Patients undergoing revision, emergency, oncological, bilateral, or septic knee surgeries were excluded and would not be represented by the findings.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If results show similar recovery, it could support safely expanding outpatient total knee replacement and shorten hospital stays for appropriate patients.

How similar studies have performed: International reports and some randomized trials have shown outpatient TKA can be safe with enhanced recovery protocols, but comparable analyses in France are scarce.
