What this trial studies
This study examines the effects of visceral osteopathic approaches on individuals diagnosed with functional constipation, comparing these methods to conventional treatments. Functional constipation is characterized by excessive straining, infrequent bowel movements, and a feeling of incomplete evacuation. The study aims to explore non-pharmacological interventions, particularly osteopathic manual therapy, which focuses on improving neuromusculoskeletal function and gastrointestinal motility. By investigating these approaches, the study seeks to provide alternative treatment options for patients who do not respond to standard lifestyle changes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 18 and over with a clinical diagnosis of functional constipation based on ROMA IV criteria.
Not a fit: Patients with gastrointestinal diseases other than constipation, recent abdominal surgeries, or certain neurological conditions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could offer a non-invasive treatment option for patients suffering from functional constipation.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research on visceral osteopathy for functional constipation, the positive effects of osteopathic manual therapy on related conditions suggest potential for success.
