Optimizing imaging for pulmonary embolism using low concentration iodine contrast
Dual-Energy CT Angiography in Suspected Pulmonary Embolism: Influence of Concentration of Contrast Materials on Image Quality and Diagnostic Performance
This study is testing if using a lower concentration of iodine contrast in CT scans can still give clear images for diagnosing pulmonary embolism while being safer for patients.

What this trial studies
This study compares the image quality and diagnostic performance of dual-energy computed tomography pulmonary angiography (DE-CTPA) using lower concentration iodine contrast materials against standard concentration iodine contrast materials in patients suspected of having pulmonary embolism. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive one of three different injection protocols with varying volumes and types of iodine contrast agents. The aim is to determine if lower concentration materials can provide adequate imaging quality while potentially reducing the risks associated with higher iodine concentrations.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 years old with a clinical suspicion of pulmonary embolism.
Not a fit: Patients with allergies to iodine contrast agents, hyperthyroidism, pregnancy, or those weighing over 80kg may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could enhance the safety and effectiveness of imaging for pulmonary embolism diagnosis.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on contrast materials in imaging, this specific approach using lower concentration iodine contrast is relatively novel.
