What this trial studies
This project aims to enhance COVID-19 testing in San Diego's central and southern communities, particularly among Latino residents who have been significantly affected by the pandemic. The initiative will implement three strategies: maintaining a walk-up testing protocol, utilizing Community Health Workers (CHWs) for counseling and support, and installing vending machines that dispense self-testing kits. Participants will consent to the study, provide demographic information, and receive a free rapid antigen test kit, with follow-up surveys to gather their experiences. The goal is to refine and expand the testing program based on community needs and feedback.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals who speak English and/or Spanish and are patients at select San Ysidro Health clinics or members of the surrounding community.
Not a fit: Patients who are institutionalized for psychiatric disorders, developmental delays, or criminal activity may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this initiative could improve access to COVID-19 testing and enhance community health outcomes in underserved populations.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in community-engaged approaches to health interventions, particularly in underserved populations, making this approach promising.
