What this trial studies
This study compares two online cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) approaches for individuals with Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), a condition characterized by excessive concerns about physical appearance. One approach integrates mindfulness meditation techniques with CBT, while the other uses traditional CBT methods without mindfulness. Over an 8-week period, participants will engage in these interventions to assess their effectiveness in reducing symptoms and distress associated with BDD. The goal is to determine if the mindfulness component enhances treatment outcomes compared to standard CBT.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals diagnosed with Body Dysmorphic Disorder who are not currently receiving structured psychotherapy.
Not a fit: Patients with severe substance use disorders, significant suicidal ideation, or co-morbid severe mental health conditions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly reduce symptoms and improve the quality of life for patients suffering from Body Dysmorphic Disorder.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that cognitive behavioral therapy is effective for BDD, but the integration of mindfulness techniques in this context is relatively novel.
