What this trial studies

This randomized controlled trial will assign 100 adults with Social Anxiety Disorder to either a self-guided Radical Acceptance program or an active relaxation-skills program, both delivered online. After diagnostic confirmation, participants complete a baseline learning session and six brief home practice sessions over two weeks, with culturally adapted video training and brief debriefs. Outcomes include repeated symptom surveys and brief computer behavioral tasks to measure mechanisms such as interpretation bias and emotion-regulation flexibility, with follow-ups a few weeks and a few months later. All procedures are conducted remotely and compare changes over time between the two interventions.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 18–45 with diagnosed Social Anxiety Disorder who are native Hebrew speakers, have regular computer access, and meet screening criteria (e.g., Mini-SPIN > 9) are the ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People with bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD, substance use disorder, a history of traumatic brain injury, recent psychiatric medication changes, prior DBT experience, or who are currently receiving psychotherapy for social anxiety were excluded and may not benefit from this online program.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the program could provide a low-cost, widely accessible online option to reduce social anxiety symptoms and improve emotion-regulation skills.

How similar studies have performed: Online and acceptance-based interventions for anxiety have shown promising results, but applying a DBT-derived Radical Acceptance program specifically to social anxiety is relatively novel.
