What this trial studies

This research evaluates the effectiveness of Project SOLVE, an online problem-solving intervention, compared to Project Success, which teaches study skills to adolescents. The study targets Year 9 students aged 12-14 years old in New Zealand, addressing the significant treatment gap in mental health support for young people. By focusing on enhancing problem-solving skills, the study aims to improve mental health outcomes for youth experiencing distress. Participants will be randomly assigned to either intervention to assess the impact on their mental well-being.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are Year 9 students aged 12-14 years old who are enrolled in participating schools and provide assent.

Not a fit: Students who do not provide assent or whose parents/caregivers do not provide consent will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve access to mental health support and enhance coping skills among adolescents.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with online interventions for mental health, indicating potential for this approach.
