What this trial studies
This research develops and tests a web-based platform called Jom-TestPlus, which integrates HIV self-testing with real-time e-counseling and links users to HIV prevention and treatment services. The approach specifically targets men who have sex with men (MSM) in Malaysia, addressing the unique challenges they face due to stigma and criminalization. By facilitating immediate engagement in post-test services, the model aims to improve HIV testing rates and subsequent linkage to care. The study also considers the needs related to chemsex, a prevalent issue among MSM in the region.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are cisgender males aged 18 and older who are HIV-negative or have an unknown HIV status and have access to the internet.
Not a fit: Patients who are unable to provide informed consent or cannot read and understand English or Bahasa Malaysia may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this model could significantly increase HIV testing and treatment uptake among marginalized MSM populations in Malaysia.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar online-to-offline models for HIV prevention and treatment, indicating potential for this approach.
