What this trial studies
This interventional study investigates the effectiveness of an online peer companion intervention (OPCI) aimed at improving social abilities and mental health in children diagnosed with mild Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). The study will assess the impact of OPCI not only on ASD children but also on typically developing peers and the mental health of their parents. Participants will engage in online interactions using electronic devices, allowing for a flexible and accessible intervention approach. The study aims to uncover the mechanisms through which OPCI influences outcomes in both groups of children.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include children aged 7-15 with a diagnosis of mild ASD who can communicate independently and use electronic devices.
Not a fit: Children with moderate or severe ASD, or those unable to communicate independently, may not benefit from this intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could enhance social skills and mental well-being in children with autism, leading to improved quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promise in peer-mediated interventions for children with autism, suggesting potential for success in this approach.
