What this trial studies
This intervention aims to combat childhood obesity in Singapore by integrating a community-based online program that encourages healthy lifestyle changes among families with overweight children aged 6-12 years. The program focuses on dietary improvements, increased physical activity, and behavioral modifications, with outcomes measured through changes in Body Mass Index (BMI) z-scores over 6 and 12 months. The study will also assess the feasibility, acceptability, and cost-effectiveness of the program compared to usual care. By fostering a supportive community environment, the program seeks to create sustainable health improvements for participating families.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are overweight children aged 6-12 years old who can provide informed consent.
Not a fit: Patients with genetic syndromes causing obesity, significant medical or psychiatric illnesses, or those with poor English proficiency may not benefit from this program.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly reduce the prevalence of childhood obesity and promote lifelong healthy habits among children.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with family-based interventions for childhood obesity, indicating potential for this approach.
