What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on evaluating prewriting skills in children aged 3 to 7 years using an innovative online assessment tool. The tool aims to automate the scoring process, making it more efficient and objective compared to traditional pencil-and-paper methods. By identifying children who struggle with prewriting skills early on, the study seeks to facilitate timely interventions that can support their development before they face more challenging academic demands. The assessment will be conducted remotely, allowing for broader data collection.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 3 to 7 years who can follow directions to attempt copying shapes.
Not a fit: Children who are unable to follow directions to attempt copying shapes will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this assessment could lead to earlier identification and intervention for children struggling with foundational writing skills.
How similar studies have performed: While traditional assessments have been used, the online version of this assessment represents a novel approach that has not been widely tested in similar studies.
