What this trial studies
This research develops and tests a web-based platform called Jom-TestPlus, which integrates HIV self-testing with real-time e-counseling and links users to HIV prevention and treatment services. The focus is on transgender women in Malaysia, a group disproportionately affected by HIV, to enhance their access to testing and care. The model aims to address unique vulnerabilities faced by this population, including stigma and discrimination, by providing immediate support and resources following HIV testing. By leveraging eHealth technology, the study seeks to improve engagement in HIV prevention and treatment among marginalized communities.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are HIV-negative or status-unknown transgender women aged 18 and older who have access to the internet.
Not a fit: Patients currently on PrEP or those unable to provide informed consent will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly increase HIV testing rates and access to prevention services among transgender women.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar eHealth approaches in improving access to HIV services, making this model a promising adaptation for transgender women.
