What this trial studies
This interventional program delivers culturally tailored nutritional activities across generations, paired with health wellness coaching, school-based nutrition education, and clinical measurements over one year. Participants receive carotid ultrasound, cognitive testing, health assessments, and blood work at baseline and follow-up visits. The intervention emphasizes Oneida-centered nutritional practices and connection to local resources through an Oneida-employed wellness coach. Outcomes include changes in stroke risk factors, vascular cognitive measures, and schoolchildren's nutrition knowledge.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are Oneida Nation members ages 7–85 who receive healthcare through the Oneida Comprehensive Health Division and can participate in wellness coaching and follow-up testing for one year.
Not a fit: People who are not Native American or who do not receive care through the Oneida Comprehensive Health Division are not eligible and therefore would not benefit from participation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the program could lower stroke risk factors and slow vascular cognitive decline among Oneida Nation members while improving nutrition knowledge in schoolchildren.
How similar studies have performed: Similar culturally tailored nutrition and coaching programs have shown promising reductions in cardiovascular risk factors in other community settings, though multi-generation school-linked programs are less commonly studied.
