What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to evaluate a new one-handed video game controller adapter designed for children aged 7 to 17 with upper limb differences. Participants will undergo an initial evaluation where they will complete demographic questionnaires and interviews about their gaming experiences, followed by training on how to use the adapter while playing Minecraft. After a week of practice with the adapter at home, participants will return for a final evaluation to assess their performance and satisfaction with the device. The study seeks to determine if the adapter improves gameplay performance and enjoyment.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children aged 7 to 17 with a unilateral upper limb difference, regardless of the cause or history of prosthesis use.
Not a fit: Patients with bilateral upper limb differences or those unable to communicate in English may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the gaming experience and performance for children with upper limb differences, promoting inclusivity and enjoyment in gaming.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative, similar studies focusing on adaptive technologies for children with disabilities have shown promising results.
