What this trial studies

The program implements a sustainable legal navigation service integrated with oncology care to help patients and caregivers overcome legal barriers that can lead to financial hardship. Eligible adults with cancer diagnoses and their caregivers who are receiving services at the Markey Cancer Center will be offered direct legal navigation support. The intervention aims to reduce cancer-related financial toxicity and measure changes in health-related quality of life. Outcomes will compare financial strain and quality-of-life measures before and after access to the legal navigation services.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults (18+) with a cancer diagnosis or their caregivers who receive services at the Markey Cancer Center and are facing legal barriers to care, and who can provide informed consent, are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People under 18, those not receiving care at Markey, patients or caregivers without legal barriers, or individuals unable to provide consent are unlikely to benefit from this program.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could reduce cancer-related financial toxicity and improve patients' and caregivers' quality of life by resolving legal barriers to care.

How similar studies have performed: Medical-legal partnership models in healthcare have shown promise in reducing legal barriers and financial strain, though dedicated oncology legal navigation programs have less published trial data.
