Oncology care coordination program for Native American patients
Care Coordination and Communication Program in Oncology for Tribal Health Systems (C3PO)
University of Oklahoma · NCT07217574

What this trial studies
The program uses a two-phase approach enrolling Native American adults with newly diagnosed cancer who are navigated through the NANP at OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center. Phase I is a 3-month pilot with up to 15 participants completing baseline assessments, monthly surveys, and exit interviews to refine the intervention. Phase II is a randomized trial comparing the C3PO care coordination intervention to usual navigation services, with all participants offered C3PO after six months. C3PO meetings focus on treatment side effects, comorbidities, approvals for referred care, and practical barriers such as transportation and financial hardship.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Native American adults (18+) within eight weeks of a new cancer diagnosis who are navigated through the NANP at OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center and speak English fluently.
Not a fit: People who are not Native American, diagnosed more than eight weeks earlier, not enrolled in the NANP navigation program, non-English speakers, or who participated in the Phase I pilot (and are therefore ineligible for Phase II) may not receive benefit from this trial.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could reduce care barriers, improve symptom management, and lead to better patient-reported outcomes for Native American cancer patients.
How similar studies have performed: Care navigation and coordination programs have improved outcomes in other populations, but a culturally tailored program embedded with tribal health systems like C3PO is relatively novel and not extensively tested.
