Not applicable Interventional Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust · NCT07172555

What this trial studies

This interventional study compares a pre-recorded, on-demand first-appointment webinar led by specialist dietitians with a standard dietetic consultation delivered face-to-face or by telephone. Adults with serology- or biopsy-proven coeliac disease will be allocated to one of the two appointment formats and receive usual follow-up. The study will measure patients' ability to adhere to a gluten-free diet, understanding of dietary requirements, and access-related outcomes such as wait times. The intervention is intended to provide immediate, standardized education while reducing pressure on NHS dietetic services.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults (18+) with serology- or biopsy-proven coeliac disease who can provide informed consent and access digital resources are the ideal candidates.

Not a fit: Patients with complex nutritional needs (for example diabetes or inflammatory bowel disease), those unable to access digital resources, or those who cannot understand spoken or written English are unlikely to benefit from the webinar approach.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the webinar approach could give newly diagnosed patients faster access to dietetic guidance and reduce waiting times while maintaining effective dietary education.

How similar studies have performed: Telehealth and digital dietetic interventions have shown promise in other settings, but on-demand first-appointment webinars specifically for newly diagnosed coeliac patients are relatively untested.
