What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effects of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) supplementation on children and adolescents aged 10-17 who suffer from migraines. Over a 12-week period, participants will be randomly assigned to receive either an omega-3 supplement or a placebo, with assessments conducted at the beginning and end of the study. The goal is to determine if omega-3 supplementation can reduce migraine frequency, severity, and associated psychological distress, thereby improving overall quality of life.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children and adolescents aged 10-17 with a diagnosis of migraine.
Not a fit: Patients with known allergies to fish or seafood, or those with significant neurological or psychiatric disorders may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a new dietary intervention for managing pediatric migraines.
How similar studies have performed: While omega-3 supplementation has shown promise in adults with migraines, this approach in pediatric populations is novel and has not been rigorously tested before.
