What this trial studies

This clinical trial investigates the effects of omega-3 supplementation on reducing externalizing behavior problems in adolescents aged 11 to 18 and their parents. It employs a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled design to assess whether dual supplementation can lead to greater improvements in behavior compared to single supplementation. The study also aims to explore the underlying mechanisms by which omega-3 impacts behavior. The overarching goal is to develop a non-invasive approach to prevent youth aggression and adult violence.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adolescents aged 11 to 18 who are willing to participate and have a parent involved in the prior Mauritius Child Health Project.

Not a fit: Patients with allergies to fish or fish products, intellectual disabilities, or those who have used fish oil supplements in the past six months may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly reduce behavior problems in adolescents, potentially leading to lower rates of aggression and violence in adulthood.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promising results with omega-3 supplementation in reducing behavior problems, indicating potential for success in this approach.
