Olive leaf extract (Atherolive) for control of type 2 diabetes
Efficacy of a Treatment Based on Olive Leaf Extracts in the Control of Diabet
This study will test whether taking a daily 400 mg olive leaf extract (Atherolive) for three months helps adults with type 2 diabetes improve blood sugar control and inflammation compared with a placebo.

What this trial studies
This randomized, placebo-controlled Phase 2/3 trial will enroll adults with type 2 diabetes at two emergency department exit points and two outpatient endocrinology/diabetology clinics in Monastir, Tunisia. Eligible participants will be assigned to receive either 400 mg Atherolive once daily or a matching placebo for three months. Baseline continuous glucose monitoring will be performed and laboratory panels (lipids, glucose, creatinine, HbA1c, and C-reactive protein) will be collected to track glycemic variability, metabolic measures, and inflammation. Outcomes will compare changes in glucose metrics, HbA1c, lipid profile, and inflammatory markers between the Atherolive and placebo groups.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults aged 18 and older with diagnosed type 2 diabetes treated at the participating Monastir emergency departments or outpatient endocrinology/diabetology clinics are eligible.
Not a fit: People without type 2 diabetes or those already on intensive glucose-control regimens may be unlikely to gain additional benefit from this supplement.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If effective, Atherolive could modestly improve blood sugar control and reduce inflammation in adults with type 2 diabetes.
How similar studies have performed: Small prior clinical and laboratory studies have suggested modest improvements in glucose and lipid measures with olive leaf extract, but large randomized trials are limited.
