What this trial studies

This observational study aims to create a prospective cohort of twin pregnancies and their offspring to better understand the complications associated with twin pregnancies, such as gestational hypertension and twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome. Data will be collected from mothers regarding their pregnancy experiences and from offspring concerning their mental, physical, and sociodemographic development up to three years of age. Biological samples, including maternal blood and placental tissues, will also be collected at specific times throughout the study, which will last a total of six years, with the first 2.5 years dedicated to participant recruitment.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are pregnant women over 18 years old who are expecting twins.

Not a fit: Patients with fetal chromosomal or congenital abnormalities or those who experience stillbirth may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved understanding and management of complications in twin pregnancies, benefiting both mothers and their children.

How similar studies have performed: While twin pregnancies have been studied, this specific approach focusing on molecular mechanisms and epigenetic differences in a cohort setting is relatively novel.
