Observing patients with hemoglobin disorders and COVID-19
Observational Study Multicentric Phamacological no Profit for the Treatment of Patients With Hemoglobinopathies and Rare Inherited Anemia Affected by Covid 19
This study looks at how COVID-19 affects people with thalassemia, sickle cell disease, and other blood disorders to better understand their risks and share treatment ideas.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess patients with thalassemia, sickle cell disease, and other hemoglobinopathies who are infected with SARS-COV-2. It focuses on collecting clinical and epidemiological data to understand the increased vulnerability of these patients to COVID-19. The study also seeks to share therapeutic approaches due to the lack of existing information on treatment for this specific population. Conducted in Italy, where these conditions are prevalent, the study will provide valuable insights into the impact of COVID-19 on patients with inherited anemias.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients with a confirmed diagnosis of thalassemia, sickle cell disease, or other hemoglobinopathies who have also tested positive for SARS-COV-2.
Not a fit: Patients without a diagnosis of hemoglobinopathies or those not infected with SARS-COV-2 may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of how COVID-19 affects patients with hemoglobin disorders, potentially leading to improved treatment strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While there may be limited data on similar studies, the focus on hemoglobinopathies in the context of COVID-19 is relatively novel and untested.
