Observing coronary artery disease through CT angiography
CHART Study of Coronary CT Angiography to Predict Imaging and Cardiovascular Outcomes in Patients With Coronary Artery Disease
Shanghai Zhongshan Hospital · NCT05380622
This study looks at how coronary artery disease develops in patients getting a special heart scan to see if certain plaque features can help predict heart problems in the future.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to analyze the development and characteristics of coronary atherosclerotic plaques in patients referred for coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA). It will track the natural history of plaque progression or regression over time, identify precursors of plaques that may lead to acute or chronic coronary syndromes, and assess the prognostic implications of various plaque features and treatment strategies. The study will utilize advanced imaging techniques to gather detailed physiological and anatomical data on coronary lesions.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients with an indication for CCTA who can provide informed consent.
Not a fit: Patients with severe left ventricular dysfunction, recent myocardial infarction, or those requiring surgical intervention may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of coronary artery disease progression and improve treatment strategies for patients.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative, similar studies have shown promise in understanding coronary artery disease through advanced imaging techniques.
