Observational study on spontaneous coronary artery dissection

Canadian Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD) Study and Genetic Sub-study (Prospective, Observational Registry With 10 Year Follow-up)

Observational Cardiology Research UBC · NCT04906356

What this trial studies

The Canadian SCAD Study is a multicenter, prospective observational registry aimed at understanding the natural history of spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) and its associated conditions. This study will enroll 3,000 patients over a 10-year follow-up period, focusing on the demographics, predisposing factors, and treatment strategies for SCAD. By collecting data from major cardiac centers across Canada and internationally, the study seeks to address the gaps in knowledge regarding SCAD, which often affects young women and is frequently misdiagnosed. The findings will help inform future randomized controlled trials and improve management strategies for SCAD patients.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients admitted with acute coronary syndrome who have documented SCAD on a coronary angiogram.

Not a fit: Patients whose SCAD is attributed to atherosclerotic coronary artery disease will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better diagnosis and management strategies for patients suffering from SCAD.

How similar studies have performed: While SCAD has been under-researched, this study builds on previous efforts and aims to fill significant knowledge gaps, making it a novel approach in this area.
