What this trial studies

This observational study aims to establish a European research network to investigate the incidence, risk factors, clinical characteristics, microbiology, treatment, and outcomes of invasive Group A beta-haemolytic streptococcal disease (iGAS) in children aged 0-18 years. By collecting data from children attending emergency departments or hospitalized with iGAS or other invasive infections, the study seeks to provide insights into the rising trends of these infections and facilitate early alerts for emerging infectious diseases. The methodology involves a retrospective cohort analysis and observational surveillance across multiple European countries.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 1 month to 18 years who are attending the emergency department or are admitted to the hospital with iGAS or other invasive infectious diseases.

Not a fit: Patients who do not have invasive Group A streptococcal infections or other emergent infectious diseases may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of iGAS in children, leading to improved prevention and treatment strategies.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on invasive infections in children, this specific approach to establishing a European network for iGAS is novel and aims to address a recent increase in cases.
