What this trial studies

This observational cohort study recruits pregnant women in their late second trimester to assess their glucose tolerance status during pregnancy. Participants represent a range of glucose tolerance, from gestational diabetes to normal levels, and are followed over several years for cardiometabolic characterization. Regular assessments include evaluations of glucose tolerance, beta-cell function, and insulin sensitivity, aiming to understand the development of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease post-pregnancy.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are pregnant women in their late second trimester.

Not a fit: Patients with pre-existing diabetes before the index pregnancy will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into the early indicators of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease in women after pregnancy.

How similar studies have performed: Similar observational studies have shown success in understanding the long-term health impacts of gestational diabetes and glucose intolerance.
