Observational study on airway management during anesthesia
International obServational sTudy on AiRway manaGement in operAting Room and Non-operaTing Room anaEsthesia

What this trial studies
This international, multicenter, prospective cohort study aims to assess the incidence of major adverse events during advanced airway management for anesthesia in patients undergoing elective or emergency surgery, as well as in non-operating room settings. It focuses on critical outcomes such as peri-intubation cardiovascular collapse, severe hypoxemia, and cardiac arrest, which are often linked to difficulties in airway management. The study will gather data from adult patients (18 years and older) undergoing general anesthesia to better understand current practices and outcomes in airway management worldwide.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who are undergoing advanced airway management for general anesthesia in either operating rooms or non-operating room settings.
Not a fit: Patients undergoing airway management during cardiopulmonary resuscitation or those who are critically ill and require intubation due to their underlying clinical condition may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved safety protocols and techniques in airway management, reducing the incidence of serious complications during anesthesia.
How similar studies have performed: While there is a lack of large-scale prospective studies specifically addressing this issue, the focus on airway management in anesthesia is a critical area of ongoing research, suggesting potential for meaningful insights.
