What this trial studies

This study investigates the effects of an omega-3 enriched nutritional formula on the incidence of infections and inflammatory responses in lung cancer patients undergoing lung resection surgery. Participants will receive either fish oil enteral supplementation, fish oil oral supplementation, or standard nutritional support without fish oil. The goal is to determine if omega-3 can improve postoperative outcomes within 30 days following surgery. The study aims to enhance prehabilitation nutrition strategies for better recovery in this patient population.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include lung cancer patients scheduled for elective lung resection surgery who can provide informed consent.

Not a fit: Patients with acute or chronic organ failure, fish allergies, recent surgeries, or those who are immunocompromised may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could reduce postoperative infections and improve recovery outcomes for lung cancer patients undergoing surgery.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific combination of omega-3 and lung resection is novel, previous studies have shown potential benefits of omega-3 in improving surgical outcomes in various patient populations.
