What this trial studies

This clinical trial investigates the effectiveness of a group-based behavioral nutrition intervention called 'Food for Mind' in alleviating symptoms of depression. Participants will be randomly assigned to either the intervention group, which focuses on improving dietary habits and includes group discussions and cooking classes, or a control group. The study aims to assess not only the impact on depression symptoms but also improvements in diet quality, quality of life, and cost-effectiveness. The intervention will last for eight weeks and includes ongoing support through a mobile application.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 20 to 65 with a diagnosis of depression who are receiving stable treatment.

Not a fit: Patients with severe food allergies, unstable general illnesses, or those with primary diagnoses of personality disorders or substance abuse may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could provide a novel approach to managing depression through dietary changes and social support.

How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using nutrition to address mental health is gaining interest, this specific intervention is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in similar formats.
