Nurse Ned: a nurse-led virtual survivorship clinic for men after prostate cancer treatment
Virtualizing Survivorship: Implementing a More Timely and Comprehensive Model of Follow-up Care: Effectiveness Evaluation Phase
This study will test whether a nurse-led virtual clinic (Nurse Ned) helps men who have finished prostate cancer treatment manage symptoms and follow-up care better than the usual specialist-led virtual care.

What this trial studies
This non-randomized controlled trial compares a nurse-led virtual survivorship model (Nurse Ned) to the existing specialist-led virtual care model (Specialist Ned) across five Canadian clinical sites. Up to 600 men (300 per arm) who have completed curative-intent treatment and are at low risk of recurrence will be enrolled and followed for 12 months. Participants will use the Ned platform to access lab results, complete electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePROs), and take part in virtual visits, with care coordinated by either a nurse or a specialist depending on their assigned arm. Pre-determined survivorship outcomes will be compared between groups to see if the nurse-led approach improves access, symptom management, and patient experience.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are men aged 18 or older who have completed curative-intent prostate cancer treatment, are judged low risk of recurrence, receive care at one of the participating sites, and can use email and English (or have a caregiver to help).
Not a fit: Patients with metastatic prostate cancer, those without email or virtual access (and no caregiver to assist), or those judged high risk of recurrence are unlikely to be eligible or to benefit from this intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, Nurse Ned could offer more accessible and timely survivorship care, improving symptom management and patient experience while easing demand on specialist clinics.
How similar studies have performed: Digital survivorship platforms like Ned have shown promise for improving follow-up and patient-reported outcomes, but implementing a nurse-led virtual clinic at this scale is relatively novel and not yet widely tested.
