What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on improving the diagnosis of infectious keratitis, a condition that can lead to vision loss. It aims to differentiate between the various subtypes of keratitis—bacterial, viral, fungal, or parasitic—using advanced diagnostic techniques such as in vivo confocal microscopy and tear film sampling. By providing more accurate information, the study seeks to enhance treatment effectiveness and reduce the need for invasive procedures. The goal is to break the cycle of nonspecific diagnosis and suboptimal treatment that often leads to worsening vision.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 years old with clinically suspected infectious keratitis who can travel to the hospital.
Not a fit: Patients with a history of infectious keratitis in the last 6 months or significant corneal thinning may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more accurate diagnoses and effective treatments for patients suffering from infectious keratitis.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative, similar studies have shown promise in improving diagnostic accuracy for ocular infections.
