Non-invasive breath test for detecting Parkinson's disease
PArkinson's Non-Invasive Volatile ORganic Compound Analysis and Microbiome Assessment (PANORAMA) Study
This study is testing a breath test to see if it can help spot early signs of Parkinson's disease by looking at chemicals in breath and changes in gut bacteria.

What this trial studies
This study aims to develop a non-invasive breath test to differentiate early Parkinson's disease (PD) from healthy controls by analyzing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in exhaled breath. It combines data from breath analysis with changes in gut bacteria, which may occur years before PD symptoms appear. The goal is to enable earlier diagnosis and treatment, potentially improving clinical outcomes and quality of life for patients. The study involves both patients undergoing neurological examinations for PD and healthy volunteers.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients aged 18 to 90 undergoing neurological examination for confirmed or suspected Parkinson's disease.
Not a fit: Patients with formal diagnoses of dysbiotic conditions or those currently on antibiotic or probiotic therapies may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to earlier diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson's disease, improving patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While breath testing has shown success in identifying other diseases, its application in neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's is still largely unexplored.
