What this trial studies

This randomized controlled trial compares a ney music intervention to standard postoperative nursing care in adults having lumbar disc surgery. Participants in the intervention arm will listen to 15-minute recorded ney music sessions via headphones at three time points: the evening before surgery, three hours after surgery, and on the first postoperative night. Outcomes measured at the same time points include pain (VAS), anxiety (STAI-I), sleep quality (Richard-Campbell Sleep Questionnaire), and physiological parameters (heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation). The control group will receive usual care without music, allowing comparison of non-pharmacological effects on recovery.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 18–70 who undergo lumbar disc surgery under general anesthesia, are at least three hours past analgesic dosing, and are willing to participate are the intended candidates.

Not a fit: Patients over 70, those receiving patient-controlled analgesia, using anxiolytic or sedative drugs, with psychiatric illness, or with communication barriers are excluded and unlikely to benefit from this protocol.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the intervention could reduce postoperative pain and anxiety, improve sleep, and potentially decrease reliance on analgesics during recovery.

How similar studies have performed: Previous research on therapeutic music in postoperative settings has shown modest improvements in pain, anxiety, and sleep, so this approach builds on some supportive evidence.
