Neuromuscular factors and competition performance in Mexican weightlifters
Association Between Neuromuscular Variables and Competitive Performance in Weightlifting: an Observational Study With Mexican Athletes [The Kraft Project]
This project will test whether stronger isometric pull force or higher vertical jump impulse is linked to better final placement among Mexican weightlifters competing at the 2025 "El Pavo" National Tournament.

What this trial studies
This cross-sectional observational project will enroll weightlifters registered for the 2025 "El Pavo" National Tournament in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, sampling selected light and heavy divisions across U-15 and Over-18 age groups for both sexes. Approximately two hours after each athlete's last valid attempt, investigators will measure vertical jump impulse using a Deep Squat Jump (DSJ) and then record isometric pull force using the Isometric Pull Start Position (IPSP) test. Competitive performance variables (best Snatch, best Clean & Jerk, Total, and final placement within sex and body-mass category) will be obtained from official competition records. The study will analyze whether, within each sex and weight category, higher isometric or jump measures are associated with superior competition placement, excluding athletes with declared health issues.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal participants are Mexican weightlifters in the specified U-15 or Over-18 divisions who are officially registered for the 2025 "El Pavo" National Tournament and have no declared health issues.
Not a fit: Athletes outside the selected age or weight divisions, those with declared health problems, or those not competing at the 2025 "El Pavo" tournament are unlikely to benefit directly from the study's findings.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help coaches and athletes focus on the neuromuscular qualities that most strongly relate to competitive success and refine training or talent identification.
How similar studies have performed: Previous laboratory and field studies have linked jump performance and isometric strength to lifting outcomes, but few have measured these variables during an actual national competition, making this approach partly supported but novel in its setting.
