Neurofeedback training with virtual reality for children with ADHD
Randomized Controlled Trials of the Effects of Near-infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) Neurofeedback Training Coupled With Virtual Reality Technology in Children With Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

What this trial studies
This study explores the effectiveness of neurofeedback training using virtual reality technology to improve attention and inhibitory control in children diagnosed with ADHD. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: neurofeedback training, computerized cognitive training, or a waitlist control group. Over the course of 8 weeks, each child will complete 16 training sessions, with assessments conducted before and after the intervention to evaluate cognitive improvements. The study aims to enhance understanding of alternative treatments for ADHD and mobilize resources for affected children.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children aged 7-12 with a clinical diagnosis of ADHD and significant attention problems.
Not a fit: Patients with IQ under 70, those with hearing or visual impairments, or those diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide a novel, non-pharmacological treatment option for children with ADHD.
How similar studies have performed: While neurofeedback and virtual reality have been explored separately, this specific combination in treating ADHD is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
