Nerve blocks for pain in the pediatric emergency department
Regional Analgesia at the Pediatric Emergency Department
We are collecting safety data on ultrasound-guided nerve blocks used to treat children's pain in the pediatric emergency department to see how often complications occur.

What this trial studies
Between 2023 and 2025 clinicians at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center will compile a registry of all pediatric patients who received ultrasound-guided regional blocks in the pediatric emergency department. The observational database will record patient age and weight, block type, local anesthetic doses, operator affiliation, immediate and delayed complications, and need for additional analgesia. Cases performed outside the ED or by physicians not affiliated with the pediatric emergency department will be excluded. The dataset will be used to quantify complication rates during routine ED care and inform safer use of regional analgesia in children.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Children treated at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center's pediatric emergency department between 2023 and 2025 who received an ultrasound-guided nerve block performed by an ED-affiliated physician are the intended cohort.
Not a fit: Children whose blocks were performed outside the emergency department or by physicians not affiliated with the pediatric ED will not be included and therefore will not benefit directly from this registry.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this registry could clarify real-world safety of pediatric regional blocks in the ED and support broader use that may reduce opioid exposure.
How similar studies have performed: Regional blocks are well established in operating rooms and adult EDs, but there are only a few published case reports and limited systematic data on routine use by pediatric emergency physicians.
Eligibility criteria
Show full inclusion / exclusion criteria
Inclusion Criteria: * Children who visited the pediatric emergency department between 2023-2025 and underwent a nerve block during their visit. Exclusion Criteria: * Children who visited the emergency department but had the nerve block performed outside the emargency department setting (e.g., inpatient wards or operationg room), or if the block was performed by a physician not affiliated with the pediatric emergency department.
