National map of cutaneous lymphomas in Italy

National Epidemiology of Cutaneous Lymphomas

Observational IRCCS Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria di Bologna · NCT07463989

This project will try to map how common cutaneous lymphomas are across Italy and see if certain places or environmental exposures are linked to more cases in people with cutaneous lymphoma.

What this trial studies

This is a multicenter observational project combining a retrospective review (patients diagnosed 2018–2022) with a prospective three‑year enrollment phase to build a national registry of primary cutaneous lymphomas in Italy. About 1,000 patients from participating dermatology departments will be included, with the IRCCS Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria di Bologna coordinating the effort. The study will record clinical, histopathologic, immunophenotypic, and basic molecular data to describe incidence and prevalence and to look for geographic clustering. Investigators will also explore associations with environmental pollutant exposure and coexisting health conditions.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are people aged over 2 years with a diagnosis of primary cutaneous lymphoma who can provide informed consent (or whose guardians can) and are seen at participating Italian dermatology centers.

Not a fit: People without primary cutaneous lymphoma (for example those with systemic lymphoma involving the skin) or those who cannot attend participating Italian sites are unlikely to benefit from this project.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, it could reveal geographic hotspots and environmental links that help guide earlier diagnosis, targeted monitoring, and public health measures for people with cutaneous lymphoma.

How similar studies have performed: International registry and epidemiology studies have generated useful incidence data and suggested environmental patterns, but a comprehensive nationwide Italian registry is novel.
